Weather
Uganda is one of the countries that experiences two seasons: the wet and dry seasons. The periods of July-August and December-February are quite dry. Mid-September to November and March to May are the wet periods.
Though you can visit at any time of the year, mountain hikes, gorilla trekking and forest walks are exigent during the wet season with rains, mud. Hikers might experience mist and wind. Inexperienced hikers are advised to visit during the dry season.
Wear
Temperatures generally range from warm to hot during daytime. You are advised to bring light clothing. At high altitudes, evenings are usually cooler and carrying light sweaters is usually of help. During any season, hikers should pack raingear, good sleeping bag, warm hat, gloves, heavy socks, solid walking shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen lotion, gum boots, waterproof jacket, and a walking stick for balance and to probe the mud. All these are available in Uganda.
If you feel uncomfortable with jungle sounds, ear plugs should be put on.
Health
One is supposed to take malaria precautions. A certificate of yellow fever vaccination is a requirement. You are advised to drink bottled water. Due to high altitudes and cold wet conditions, the following ailments may occur: Hypothermia, Dehydration, Altitude sickness, AMS (Acute mountain sickness), HAPE (High altitude pulmonary edema), and HACE (High altitude cerebral edema). Carrying a basic first aid kit is a necessity.

Currency
The Uganda shilling is the medium of exchange mainly used. Although the US dollar is the most common, all major currencies (Euro, GB Pounds)are accepted. Banks and bureaux de change in all large towns can help change cash and travelers cheques. You are advised to carry cash when travelling upcountry since credit cards are only limited to some parts of Kampala.
Tipping
Though tipping is not obligatory, a small gratuity is always appreciated.
What to Bring
If you want to fully enjoy the game reserves in Uganda that is gifted by nature, carry binoculars. Photographers will need a zoom lens for wildlife. If you are interested in print film and developing, that can be done in Uganda. Toiletries and other essentials can be bought anywhere in the country.
Language
Due to the fact Uganda is a former British protectorate, English is widely used. All our staff and guides are fluent and will enjoy their company. Swahili is also used where need arises. Because of the friendly nature of Ugandans, they can teach afew words of the local dialect of Luganda if you are interested.
